Changing the localhost directory

I am an asp programmer and just started learning php. For development under asp, i followed a practice where i had defined a custom root folder in a convenient location where i could store all of my website related data. And had changed the home directory for IIS server (i.e. i changed my root folder from the default wwwroot directory to some other place). So, my localhost would become, say f:\mywork\webdev\, instead of the default c:\Inetpub\wwwroot.
Now, i want to follow a similar practice for php based development as i dont like storing websites' data on c: drive.
If anybody knows how to configure the server root folder settings as i had described above then please help me..im running apache (wamp2)

Your question is related to Apache. PHP has nothing to do with the root directory.

You can change it in Apache by going to the httpd.conf file and editing the DocumentRoot, and also the <directory "mydir"> a few lines down. (It's not the first <directory> tag that you see)

Sorry about posting in the wrong forum...

thanks alot mate...it worked! just had to further copy some files and change some paths.but it didnt work until i restarted all services from wamp..cheers
