Re-write rule to ensure that a .html is added to the end of all static html pages.?

Hello,

I have a large website that is made up of static html pages. There are many links, both internal and external, then link to the URL both with and without the .html suffix. Most pages are with the .html, so really I would like to know if there is a way to ensure that all pages are written with .html.

Two questions really:

1. What is the mod-rewrite to ensure that all pages have a .html suffix (and only one - do not want to add .html to all pages).

2. Is there a way to search all files for missing .html suffixes, so that I can at least sort out internal link problems?

Cheers

Jon.

0. Learn about mod-rewrite

1. You need a regular expression (wikipedia) to filter the pages you do/don't want to mod-rewrite

2. That depends on your code and the editor you're using. In dreamweaver, you can search the entire site for a certain tag, that has a certain attribute, that matches a certain criteria.
But you could start searching for: /"
That should show you links to directories (amongst other things). Take it form there...
