Choosing Adsense Content
I have a Web Design website that I decided to add some Adsense to it. The problem is that it advertises all the local web design companies, which is no good for me! Is there a way that I can set it so that I can choose what types of adverts appear?

Re: Choosing Adsense Content
Yeah, I think you can block certain advertisers or keywords. Check out the adsense faq and have a look through the control panel thingy. It's in there somewhere. But if this is a business site you shouldn't really have ads on it. It looks very unprofessional and I can't see you making a bomb if it isn't an entertainment site or similar.

The only reason we did it was because we were told that it can help your position on google, im not sure if this is true, but everythings worth a try.

Re: Choosing Adsense Content
I found that I was indexed in Google almost immediately after signing up with Adsense. I didn't even submit my site or have any backlinks.
To filter out adverts from web design companies you need to copy their URLS and paste it into Adsense>Adsense setup>Competitive ad filter.

I am convinced this is false. You can't "buy" better Google rankings by signing up for their ad service.
Google crawls new web pages pretty often; any correlation with your adding Adsense is probably a coincidence.

I agree that you probably can't get better rankings because there would be an outcry by Overture or other ad agencies. It would be highly unethical for Google to add the incentive of high rankings if you use them as an ad service.
However I was indexed almost instantly after signing up for Adsense - something that would usually take weeks.

Re: Choosing Adsense Content
We should try a study....Remove adsense from a site and see what happens. I suspect it would be an eye opener and Google wouldn't be so innocent. You don't provide a service unless it is definately in your favor. adsense in definately in googles favor.

Re: Choosing Adsense Content
Yeah I dont think it can increase your rankings, but I am pretty sure they have a special crawler. I made a website yesterday (well its not finished yet!) and it has adsense on it. My log file show me google has crawled it already, and the domain was only live since this morning!
I beleve adwords can increase your rankings slightly as search engines index the sites that link to your add. google probably uses some sort of redirect code to track it, so I am not sure how effective this is.
Personly, I think its a bad idea to have adsense on your web design site. It will confuse your customers and send them to your competitors.

Re: Choosing Adsense Content
By the way, the crawler was called "Mediapartners-Google/2.1"
