CMS system integrated to existing site

Client has an existing site, and he wants to be able to edit just one page.

Is there a CMS application that I can embed in part of a webpage, allowing logged-in visitors to edit content, but not mess around with the page structure?

Re: CMS system integrated to existing site

LOL. Nope.

CMSs don't integrate to existing websites. Existing websites are rebuilt around CMSs.
What you need is a custom written one-off file editor.

Is the site live? Can I take a look?

Re: CMS system integrated to existing site

I saw a script by someone posted ages ago which would get the contents of a .txt file that was on the server and display the contents on the webpage, which sounds (nearly) perfect for this job. Whoever it was, could they post the code again here?

Re: CMS system integrated to existing site

Problem with that is, the client is expected to upload the file.
Sounds easy to us but as far as users are concerned, that is a line you shouldn't cross.

Re: CMS system integrated to existing site

I agree with Spinal here, I once did a job with a client, which involved them changeing there menu in the restaurant, and then uploading it to the server.

It turned out to be a real mess because the people uploading it and changing the files were not computer literate at all, and struggled to change the menus, and as they are the paying customers, they should have it nice and easy for them.

Re: CMS system integrated to existing site

Thanks for the interesting chat guys. The page isn't live yet, but it would be a page of latest news. I would like them to be able to add/remove just the designated paragraphs or images but nothing else.

I could write a bit of Perl to build the page from txt as suggested, but I don't like the idea of the client having ftp access.

I could port the whole site to a special CMS host. Anybody recommend a simple cheap one?

Martin

Re: CMS system integrated to existing site

I strongly recommend CS New Media, best hosting company in the UK as far as I'm concerned.
