adding audio to web pages

Hi all.
I am fairly new to this, and I am trying to add a midi file to a web page as a background sound.

I am using the latest version of IE.

I have set aup a test page of http://www.luciedavies.co.uk/Untitled-1.htm and added the following code in between the body tags.
<embed src="audio/tedybear.mid" width="32" height="32"></embed>

I have uploaded to the server, and I can listen to the audio when I visit the page. But 2 other people have said that there is no audio for them to hear when I have asked them to test it out. ( the page is blank apart from the audio).

Does anyone have any ideas which might help me out.
Is the code wrong.
any ideas wopuld be appreciated

Re: adding audio to web pages

their browser doesn't have the plugin required to play the file.
The plugin is QuickTime, see my attachment below...

Hi Spinal007
Thanks for the input, is there any way to use background music without the person viewing having to download a plugin or in Flash having to allow the use of acive X.

IE Only:

Not sure about a browser-friendly way to do it. My opinion is, don't do it.

Re: adding audio to web pages

Just so you know, it's a bad idea to add sound to a web page automatically. If users have their volumed turned up, it will scare the bejesus out of them

Re: adding audio to web pages

hehehe true, and I agree. This could be done in flash without having the user activate an active X plugin. As long as the user has flash installed you could easily build a great little flash player, that would work in all browsers that have flash, and not require activation...but as Ryan said...don't have it start by default.

Let me know if you want me to build you a quick sample flash player.
