<object> mayhem :)

Hey Everyone,

I have been working on my google maps social networking site (www.magellantics.com/main.php) for a while now and I would like to be able to offer people embeddable maps. I have never attempted anything like this before but I decided to go for a remotely linked page within an <object> tag. This seems to work fine in fireforx and safari but it doesn't work in internet explorer. The window gets rendered blank. I tried it with a simple "Hello World" page and I get the same result, a blank window.
I tried the same thing with an iframe and that does work on all browsers but it isn't part of xhtml strict and on top of that <object> seems to be better supported by other social networking sites.

I made a test site here: www.geocities.com/skymartijn/index.html
This should demonstrate what does and what doesn't work.
Does anyone have any idea of whats going on and how to fix it?
Maybe using a remotely linked page (whether with object or iframe) is not the way to go for an embedded map? Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Re: <object> mayhem :)

Sorry, I really am not familiar with the <object> tag and its typical application. I know IE has a lot of problems with certain things, perhaps you should put some effort into researching what it takes for IE to display something like what you want. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Re: <object> mayhem :)

Sorry, I hate to turn people away from this wonderful place, but maybe there's a forum out there that's more geared to that end of the internet.

Re: <object> mayhem :)

Is there maybe a way to embed a map through flash? I don't have any experience with this, just wondering.

Re: <object> mayhem :)

The Google maps are mostly JavaScript, so I doubt there is anyway to do that...
