Is your site tableless?

We all like to show off that our site is standards compliant with links to validate our XHTML and our CSS.
But how many of us can declare that our site is 100% tableless ?

I stumbled upon a really neat site that allows you to do just that,

Check out my News Blog for further details.

Re: Is your site tableless?

This is pointless rubbish. A site doesn't need to validate as table free. Tables have a real purpose and that is to organise the display of tabulated data.

Used properly in the right context they are just as much valid markup as any other.

I think this is more a plug for your own site otherwise you would have put the link to the tableless validation site straight in the post.

I think the idea is to validate that a site is not using tables for general layout, obviously there are circumstances where tables must be used
such as the display of tabulated data.

Re: Is your site tableless?

Mine is!

Yeah, I figured you meant tabless for the layout. I have this fascination with looking at other site's source code, and I see quite a number of sites that don't use tables at all. I rarely check to see if a site validates, though.

I would be extremely surprised if any validation program could distinguish between table markup for tabulated data and table markup for layout purposes.

Re: Is your site tableless?

The validator does have two levels of validation:-

1. Tables comply with W3C recomendations.

2. 100% Table free.

Re: Is your site tableless?

Tables complying with W3C recommendation would presumably check for things like use of header, etc., and make the assumption that tables used for layout purposes would not have one.

I still think, in my opinion, it's a pointless exercise.
