Should I insist on Domain Certificate?
I've had a web site designed my a small web design company( two people). I need to pay £100.00 per year to host the site. When I asked for the Domain Certificate I was told dont worry they look after all that?
But surely if I dont have the certificate then I have no proof that the site belongs to me? If the web design business closes or perish the thought if the two people who run it die in a car crash- how will I be able to renew the Domain name, I dont even know where it is registered? any thoughts appreciated |

Re: Should I insist on Domain Certificate?
List the domain name here, I will find out where it is registered and we can go from there.

Re: Should I insist on Domain Certificate?
I mint the domain that you want the domain certificate to. Here is what you need to find out, whose info is in the whois for that domain. I own lots of domains, and never received a certificate. You just need to make sure your info is in the whois for that domain. Then if they die, you own that domain. Please post it up, and I will provide you with a link to your whois.

Re: Should I insist on Domain Certificate?
What certificate do you mean? I've never heard of one. You just give your info for Whois details in the graph owner and for the graph admin.

Re: Should I insist on Domain Certificate?
I am the same as Jacob, I have about 30 domains over 3 registrars (including 1and1.com and Godaddy.com) and have never received a certificate of ownership. I would advise you to pay them an extra $10 or however much it is and have the domain transferred into an account where you can access it, so that if anything did happen to your administrators, you still have your domain. I would recommend having it transferred to godaddy.com.

Re: Should I insist on Domain Certificate?
hi,
Domain name certificates are only sent out for .uk domains as an offical document. However nominet changed this system and you get a letter (to the registered address on the domain name) which has a link and a code on it, you can then go to Nominets website and reconfirm the registered details against the domain, make any changes, including the registrant and you wont get charged for it. Unless it is a company specific thing, then certificates for other domains do not carry much weight, and you dont need them. Just double check the WHOIS to make sure you are down as the Registrant (with your address), if that is the case you are the legal owner of the domain name. |
