Forum spam

I was wondering, like if someone came to a forum and started spamming, is it possible for the IP to be reported to the ISP?

And if it is, will they shut off the internet of the offending IP?

Re: Forum spam

Are you planning to be a problem??

Yes it is very possible, In fact I know your IP address right now. But mostly the IP address is used to ban people permanently from the forum, and keep them from making duplicate accounts. But if the moderators find it necessary to report you to your ISP, we can and we even would have a record to give them. Plus knowing Rob he would...lol

Re: Forum spam

Have you read your internet company's terms and conditions?? They can do anything they want to do. Trust me, if Rob tells them you are conducting illegal behavior, or are abusing his website, or SPAMMING, which is in violation of our terms and agreements, and your internet company’s as well, your internet company probably has some fine print about if you are using the internet for spamming purposes they reserve the right to cancel your account, or something along those lines.

Re: Forum spam

I don't think an ISP would cancel your account just for spamming on a couple of forums. If you sent out a hundred-thousand emails maybe, but if the company is large I doubt that they'd even take notice of a report or two.

I don't claim to know anything at all about ISP's and how they handle spam reports.

Re: Forum spam

It would depend on the pressure put on them etc.. They much rather just cancel his !9.95 a mos account or whatever than pay legal fees.

Re: Forum spam

ISP's dont usually do anything unless the webmaster presses them. They will usually warn the user and if they keep getting reports they will suspend the account and/or refer the user to the police or higher, depending on how bad it is.

Re: Forum spam

Even though spam is not quite illegal, it is against the Acceptable Use Policy or Terms of Service of just about every network in the country (foreign networks have policies regarding it as well, but they're not as prevalent and a bit harder to enforce). This means if you can determine who's sending spam, you can report it to their administrator and they can lose their account on that network and have to look elsewhere. Also most places have a zero-tolerance policy regarding spam. If you spam, you're gone. No refund. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200. In fact sometimes companys (on occasion) go after spammers on their network for compensation of lost work time spent tracking them down. Successfully, I might add. As for a higher authority...FBI handles some SPAM related problems, on a daily basis I might add.

Re: Forum spam

Why hasn't someone in charge of making laws ruled that spam is illegal? Sure, it would still be able to come from other countries, but what I wouldn't give to be without those stupid "Buy stock in this company" and "Buy replica watches" messages.

Re: Forum spam

As long as republicans are in charge anything that promotes business even invasive measures will be acceptable.
