NEW to php but stuck on installation

Posted this query on .net and wasnt succesful in findin a solution so I thought I would try those in the know.

I have followed an installtion from SAMS teach your self book and succesfully got MySQL, apache installed but cannot complete the last hurdle on the php install. I have a problem getting the browser to read the phpinfo.php file. When I type in http://localhost/phpinfo.php i just get a file that windows cant open and when I try to open it will offer to open or download it. when i click to open it asks me to open up in text editor and then just shows me the

phpinfo();
?>
script that I put inthere. Iknow it must be something in the last part of this installation thats just not going right.

I am very new to all this code so please keep your answers nice and simple

Yeh Cheers - I saw this on one of the other threads while I was waiting for a reply to mine. Do you suggest that I completely uninstall and start over? I did that last night and just ended up back where I started.

I did it as the tutorial said and it all works fine for me

You could just try doing the php bit first and if that doesn't work the start from scratch

Is there a good page like that one for IIS? I am not running Apache. I cannot get my php code to work.

Thanks for the tutorial. I did what it said. I must have an issue somewhere else, maybe with IIS itself?
