Hi, I need help to find a host...

Hallo,

Basically I'm attempting to set up my own website for the first time, and I need to find a host.
Can anyone recommend a good one, particularly if they offer good support to a complete beginner?

I would ideally like to have a domain name included, free 24hr support service, email address, a reasonable amount of web space and obviously that they would be reliable.

I am willing to pay up to maybe £8 a month maximum.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Cat.

I would recommend for americans 1and1.com as it has very low prices for quite reasonable sets of services. For the europeans i don't know if it would be limiting or not to have an american hosting plan.

Plans start a $3/month which gets you quite abit.

Is this what you had in mind:
http://1ontheweb.net/web-site-hosting.html
or you can look here
http://www.123connect.co.uk/

You can register a .uk domain for no more than £10 per two year period.

Before you use a none european based hosting, keep in mind that it is against EU law to transmit personal details outside the EU without that persons explicit permission. So if your site will handle personal details - you have been warned.

Re: Hi, I need help to find a host...

Hi again,

Cheers for your suggestions.

I have gone with 1and1, since a few reviews etc suggested they are reliable/good value, plus my domain registration is included on their plan.
Now to get my hands dirty and actually get something up on the web!

Cat

Re: Hi, I need help to find a host...

heart-internet.co.uk are pretty good. I have a reseller hosting account with them (not really for general reselling, but to provide hosting for my clients) which costs me £29.99 p/m

If you really get stuck I can hook you up with an account from free up to minimal cost depending on what you want included - either way there won't be any ads/ banners etc.
