Re: help with starting a website

If you are looking to employ someone to do some work for you, then post in the job opportunities forum.

If you looking for a load of ready made solutions for free, then you are looking in the wrong place.

Re: help with starting a website

May I suggest that this is not the place to ask general questions, but to ask specific questions which you have searched for and can't find an answer to.

A some good places to start learning are...

http://www.w3schools.com/
http://www.htmlgoodies.com
http://www.htmldog.com/

Start with the basics and work your way up. When you run into a problem, Google it and if you can't find what you're looking for then come to Webforumz.

Good luck on your website and happy designing.

Re: help with starting a website

Ill sum it up for you

1) learn xHtml
2) Learn CSS

3) learn to use flash, actionscript & Javascript
4) Forget how to use Flash, actionscript and Javascript unless you have a really good reason

5) learn to use Php and Mysql

You can build a decent looking site by just doing the first 2 ....... when you reach number 3 you will find that your sites look awfull .... untill... you learn number 4

Number 5 is more hardcore

Cool Re: help with starting a website

Learn XHTML...and I hate to say it, well actually I don't, but flash will make you more money than just a standard XHTML/CSS website. This is true....just look at flash designer’s prices, $1500 to build a website in flash.

I disagree, flash websites can be both functional and professional. In fact flash allows you do to animation and design websites that would not be possible in XHTML/CSS websites. I personally feel that flash is a great website design tool if used correctly. But it is very important to learn XHTML/CSS FIRST!!

Actionscript will bring a hefty pay check.

Re: help with starting a website

Yep my brother in law is an action script guru, and he only accepts flash jobs that pay at least $3,000. So he normally does website, cartoons and ads for companies like AOL. You know the stupid ads on the side of a webpage that you hate. Yep those are the ones…oh, like the one at the bottom of webforumz...also holiday cards, he makes lots of them as well.

I aggree totally with everything you said, Flash is amazing if used correctly but lest face it, when your just starting out, the chances of you knowing enough about programming and design are pretty low. Most people go over the top on flash when they first learn to use it...... myself included.

hence i said :

4) Forget flash, java & actionscript unless you have a really good reason

I will append it to say (or your building a flash website) .... but from what this guys asking i think a 100% flash website is maybe a little out of his reach at the moment.
