htaccess

Wondering if anybody could let me know (or even do it for me ) how to make a .htaccess file which would direct visitors to a page stating that the website it offline for seriosu updates and you can visit the forum by clicking "here"

why would you use .htaccess for that? Why not just put up a temporary index page?

thats a nice write up!

But if you do htaccess what I do is make a text file upload it to my server then rename it to .htaccess. With a good FTP app like transmit you can make the files through that and edit them with the ftp app or as I like to do ssh in and pico the bad boy. The probolem you will encounter is OS X and Windows don't particuarly enjoy files that begin with a period like .htaccess.. in fact on OS X .Filename would make an invisible file unless you have the finder set to show invisible files.. Windows will just yell at you and tell you to give the file a name.
