Working with photoshop and fireworks

I have a small issue, I hate cutting up designs for web from photoshop to the point that id rather re-create the layout in fireworks.

I have to use an existing design from PShop but if I open it in fireworks it flattens, I have also tried exporting a .png from photoshop and still the same. I want to be able to preserve the layers from the Phoshop design in Fireworks.

This never used to happen before my hard drive gave up and I have had to get a new one so im sure it's a setting somewhere in the programmes I have re-installed.

I thought i'd try and ask before i start to re-draw the thing!

I am using Photoshop CS2 and Fireworks 8

I've solved it now... Fireworks preferences > in the folders tab I have linked up to the Photoshop Plug-Ins folder and now the .psd opens up in layers.

Fireworks has always had support for PSD's. The ability to use PS plugins is just a bonus. A nice one too. FW can also export to layered PSD's.

Thanks for that, Although the Photoshop problem is solved I still have the same issue if I copy objects from an illustrator file, i.e. If i copy a vector object from Illustrator and paste into Fireworks it flattens and discards the paths.

Re: Working with photoshop and fireworks

You probably have to export the paths from AI and import them into FW for it to work, but I never tried.
