Design, rules and guidelines.

Hi. I'm completely new to this forum, and quite new to web-design. I need a little push into it, and it seems like you peoples know pretty much about it.
I want to make my site with flash.
To give you a hint of what kind of sites I like, take a quick look at these sites:
http://www.stoogerecords.co.uk/ (I would personally use another colour)
http://www.metroparkusa.com/store/art
http://0at.org/
http://www.cabanadigital.com/

As you probably see i often like the sites grungy, but not too much as well.
I also like retro design and music. Some tips here as well would be really nice.

Do you know anywhere where I can learn how to use colours, what colours that works together, and stuff like that? Do you know anywhere I can find info about balancing my design.

Maybe I ask for too much, but I hope someone will reply.

Re: Design, rules and guidelines.

Ok first off. Welcome to webforumz. Please feel free to introduce yourself in the New Member Introductions forum. Now next I guess I will explain to you some problems with your post. First off, this is the flash forum. None of the sites listed above are flash. So I have no ideal why you are asking questions in the flash forum. No big though.

The differences between flash and html are simply design animation. Flash can be very user interactive and have cool animation. But can also be very annoying if used improperly. Some examples of completely flash website are...

http://www.pixelgasoline.com/
http://www.stephaneguillot.com/index_uk.htm
http://v5.2advanced.com/index.php
http://www.neostream.com/
http://www.dubko.com/
http://www.mediaboom.com/

this sites are just a few of the very cool flash websites out there. Note: Some of the above flash websites might take a while to load. (NeoStream) But trust me it is worth the wait.

Ok now on to what you were asking about. This is a great tutorial about what colors go well together. Kinda long, but worth it if you gain the information contained within.

http://www.allwebdesignresources.com...webdesign.html

Ok if you have any questions, about how to get started building this website in flash, or html, or whatever. Please feel free to reply or PM me. Thanks.

Re: Design, rules and guidelines.

Thanks for such a long response.
Well, I was not sure where to post this, so, since I'm using flash, i'd post it in the flash section. Sorry if thats wrong.
The reason why my links were html is just because I like their design. This is just meant as a clue for you if you know any guide on this kind of design.
I will read the colour-combination tutorial when I finish work today.
By the way, are you from scandinavia? Your name looks very norwegian or danish.
And thanks again!

Re: Design, rules and guidelines.

I am sorry, you were right. I was just confused about the HTML links. Yes this is the right section if you are planning on using flash on the project. The designs are very nice. But look at the links I gave you. Look at all that flash can do. Think Big. As for my name. Jacob Haug is actually German. My ancestors came from Germany to the US hundreds of years ago. I was and currently live in the US. What about you?

Re: Design, rules and guidelines.

Ok. thanks. I will look at it now. Just came home.
I'm from Norway. Both your name and surename is like we use in scandinavia. Germany is not too far away, and very similar to Norway.
I'll have a look at it now. Maybe I post my final site in this forum.

Re: Design, rules and guidelines.

I think maybe I would say http://www.dubko.com/.. the reason is that 2advanced is a little bit too advanced
And I guess I think the other ones have too much real graphics. If you know what I mean.. But they are all great sites. Looks professional.

Oh.. sorry.. You mean the HTML sites? Im not sure.. Maybe metroparkusa.com Hehe.. Not a nice site in norwegian.. (Metropar)kusa means vagina.. :S well. You also have a honda named fitta, in other countries. They had to rename it for Norway. In norway it means "The pussy"
Well. That was kind of off topic, but at least I answered your question..

Re: Design, rules and guidelines.

Ok. I have just made a test site. I think maybe this is a little bit boring, but it is just a start.
I found the grunge-look too hard to make. It looks so amateur when I make it.

Well. my test site:

Re: Design, rules and guidelines.

Not bad!! That was really good, hard to believe you are only a beginner. You showed a nice professional looking motion tween, also you used nice color. I am impressed. I can't wait to see a finished website from you. That was pretty cool.

Re: Design, rules and guidelines.

Hi. I just made a little update. No big thing, but a hint of what I maybe will make my menu look like. Does it look like a nice menu, or a menu someone that just discovered flash, and is deeply fascinated, could make? (I refer to, for example, the filter phenomenon in photoshop

Re: Design, rules and guidelines.

I think my design maybe looks a little bit simple. Too simple. Do you have any suggestions how to make it look a bit more "complete"?

Re: Design, rules and guidelines.

First off simple, can look professional, as well as good. But if you want to make it just a bit more complex try making squares motion tween into the stage. Here is an example of this.

http://www.adnsolutions.com/old_site/flash.html

This website is just a bunch of square's at first folding in to the stage on a motion tween. It is a nice effect if used properly. This is something you would have to experiment with on your own. Find out what type of cool effects you want on your website, and then ask us how to accomplish this task in flash. Good Luck!!

Re: Design, rules and guidelines.

Well. I have learned a lot by making my site. But I'm not happy with the design. I want to make it using another style. If you have ever bought clothings on Jack and Jones, you know the style. I think that is sometimes a bit extreme, but thats more or less what I want to create.

http://www.youaresolastyear.com/inde..._from=&ucat=9&
The kind of messy
http://www.jp33.com/ Not the web-design, but the poster art. I kind of like it, and would like to try to achieve something like it. But so difficult :P I use photoshop as well, and thought that this is maybe the way to go if I want this kind of design.

Re: Design, rules and guidelines.

That's the way things work in flash. I learned allot by making my last flash site. Everyone loved it, but I was not impressed with it. In fact I hated it. This was because I had been staring at the website for the last 3 weeks. Good Luck. I hope to see a really cool flash website coming from you very soon!!

Re: Design, rules and guidelines.

I played around and ended up with a new design. I think it is better. What do you think? I will make the ENTER site with a html site link as well. (Some people hate flash and just exits your site if you use it.)
The design is not finished, and I want to animate an opening (Things sliding inn and splatting around) I want it to happend quick. I think many flash sites uses too long time opening themselves, though it looks good and is fancy, it is not very practical.

The current splash-screen:
http://www.supermenn.com/lassjus/test/Lassjus.html
And the main site:
http://www.supermenn.com/lassjus/tes...ovedsiden.html

Hope you like it!
