frames

I am led to belive that search engines don't like frames.
can anyone shed any light.
All my text is in frames.
if you can read all the text in the html code then surely the robots can too.
I use serif webplus 9/10 and I don't use the creative frame option, I don't have any overflowing text or anything unusual just plain text. www.familytraits.co.uk
I am a donkey.

Frames are bad. They do mess up your SEO, they break navigation etc..

Re: frames

My reaction is an automatic Right click/Close Tab hehe. But in all honesty if you really need a frame effect you can simulate it with CSS rather easily. Frames however should be left in the past.

Re: frames

it seems I must appolagise to all you gurus out there.
I use serif webplus to build my site.
the text box I use is called an html frame, the serif forum informs me that webplus html frames are fine.
they are not the same as web frames.

Re: frames

Simple answer.
Look at Frame pages.
Look at NoFrame pages.
Which do YOU think are better?
If you say "Frames" watch out for Minute's head, which can spin up to quite a speed.

Controversial answer.
Ignore everyone on "Serif" (whatever that is) who favours frames.
They are plainly all Thai 'lady-boys' and should not be offering advice on such things anyway.

Re: frames

Oh it is such a sore point here, I guess that you all must really hate frames.
I have tried to clear it up, aparently serif webplus 10 html frames are not the same as the old web frames that you are all talking about. that question was answered for me.
and the serif forum is good if you have serif software so please don't discredit them, I am not trying to promote another forum I was just trying to make it clear that the program I use has a text box that is called a frame but it is not the same as the old web frames. No one in the serif forum favours the old web frames.
I am not an advanced user, clearly you guys are. You all know your stuff, I don't ,that is why I come on here.
at the end of the day I am clueless, I could not tell the difference between a frames website and a noframes website.
Obvously when you see someone mention frames alarm bells start ringing, it must be like comparing analoge with digital.
does it really matter in the bigger scheme of things.
webplus html frames are not the same please believe me.
kind regards
graham

Re: frames

No worries Graham, we're just having some fun, not shouting you down.

I'm afraid I have no idea what webframes are and so I, (probably like my peers here) thought they were normal 'frames'. Frames are bad and most designers deliberately build without using them nowadays.

I now assume your 'webframes' are connected to some kind of 3rd party WYSIWYG software. In which case we'll all shut up until we have more experience of it.

If it is part of something else, could you let us know more so we can advise anyone else asking?

Re: frames

Thanks for all the input, it seems I opened a can of worms. Someting I did not mean to do.
The software I use is a desktop publishing type wich allows you to easily build a site, what you see is what you get. Perhaps not suitable for the more advanced user, but for people who are less advanced it is very good.
I have been able to build a site with absoulutly no html knowledege.
but since building my site I have learned a lot and I am slowly working on a new site and begining to understand things better.
I ask a lot of questions and I get lots of good responces.
Now that the frames issue is cleared up I think that serif should have called there html frames html boxes instead.
apparently they thought frames were well in the past and no one would compare thier html frames with the old frames.
Serif webplus html frames are readable by search engines, but thier creative text frames are not. for that reason I never use the creative frames.
regards
graham
