Thanks for your help - managed to locate the problem within 5 minutes from this link. Problem being: 'Links inside fixed-position elements have no visual feedback that they are links'. To fix it I merely deleted any positioning from the parent element. Great!!!! It works beautifully in IE5.2 Mac and all other previously mentioned browsers BUT........NOT now IE6 Windows!!!!! It has now decided to omit the background color from the[*] class 'first'. Great! Onwards and upwards right? Any useful debug sites for IE6 please?
