This is only my original page design - it is now updated with content and the client is happy, but what do YOU think?

Re: jocnet.co.uk/evaluate/spaldingtri

in all honesty, my first impression is "out of date." this is for several reasons:

-in terms of coding, all css is embeded in the page, and tables are used for the structure.
-the "tabbed" navigation buttons at the top look very 1990's.
-the 3 colours used - aqua marine, navy blue, and white - look like colours from microsoft paint. you should try using more subtle colours that complement each other better.
-the site doesn't load too well in safari - there is white borders at the bottom and right hand side. it looks like you have designed it to only work properly at 1024x768 in internet explorer.

sorry if that's all a bit negative, but most of them are easy things to change and would make the world of difference!

edd: i'd love to be able to text in safari, however, i do not yet have a mac, if you wish to contribute to my Mac fund feel free .

i normally test my sites in Firefox - as i, like many, strongly dislike IE.

css is easy to change, generally i just design my base page and then sort out CSS.

What do you suggest in place of the tabbed buttons - the client reccommended to me www.cambridgetriathlonclub.co.uk and said that he liked the tabs.

Re: jocnet.co.uk/evaluate/spaldingtri

my personal changes would be:

1) lose the animated (java?) message board, as it looks quite tacky and there is no good reason why any news cant go on the home page.
2) i like the idea of blues, but choose more pastelly ones, not the standard ones you have used. if you are not very confident with css navigation, use this list-o-matic to create one for you, which you can then get your head arround and edit to your needs:

http://www.accessify.com/tools-and-w.../list-o-matic/

3) move the navigation to the left where the notice board currently is. you have too many pages IMO to have it along the top, as it only just fits in 1024x768.

those 3 things would make a massive improvement

Re: jocnet.co.uk/evaluate/spaldingtri

The message board is a html inline page, running on a simple HTML marquee.

basically, i am asking for improvements so i know what i need to do next time around.

thanks, edd. much appreciated.

You can have the tabbed effect using CSS... image based navigation is really unneccesary these days

XHTML:

CSS:

Those two will bring you a long ways if you put some effort into it.
