Help with text in Photoshop

I sometimes get this problem when designing text images for the web in Photoshop 7. I always choose "antaliased" and read some tuts that say select "crist" others say "sharp" etc. Sometimes no matter what I chose, the text is not very clear -- it's not very blurry, but does not look great either. What's the standard when creating text gifs for the web? thanks.

gifs arent good for anti aliasing because of their limited colour range. Use jpg instead.

hey thanks, did not know that about gifs. I mostly only make photos JPG. So is there a best way for text in PS? Such as selecting "sharp, Crisp, etc" to make it less pixalated?

Not really.
Different fonts will resolve differently and depending on different circumstances.
I play around with it when the image is nearly finished and there's nothing left to influence them.

yw, there's a new setting in PS-8 (CS) for fonts as well but I don't think it's worth upgrading just for that. It's not that great. lol

Really, PS 8 is not that great? I've heard that PS 8 Pro is awesome and was thinking of upgrading.

No, no.
PS-8 (CS) IS great.
I meant it's not worth upgrading for that one text thingy.

Also, I came straight to PS8 from Fireworks, so I may be the wrong person to ask how much better it is when compared to PS7.


I've spoken to a lot of designers who still prefer to use PS7 though, if that helps.
