Problems uploading gifs

I've set up a new site that features a lot of .gif files on it. Everythings fine except for two particular pages where certain files sort of 'bunch up' at the bottom and leave huge areas of black space (thats a really bad description so look here to see what i mean: 'http://karmadesign.awardspace.com/student.html' and 'http://karmadesign.awardspace.com/char.html' ). I've tried re-uploading the images over and over again and to split them into smaller ones but whatever I do theres always a few that end up looking like this. I'm using Cyberduck on the mac as my FTP and Safari as my browser. I've also noticed that when I upload the files, the size of the end file is bigger than it says it is in the first place (eg 48 bytes of 41 uploaded ). Don't know if that makes a difference. Any help would be appreciated.

Make sure you upload all images in 'BINARY' mode.

You should check out your FTP application to ensure this is the case.
