Adding a search function

Is there any way to add a simple search function to a website without going through a company like Wordpress for the service?

Re: Adding a search function

I use google as a quick easy way to do it...
Code: Select all
<form method="get" action="http://www.google.com/search">
<p>
<input type="hidden" name="domains" value="http://www.yourwebsite.com" />
<input type="hidden" name="sitesearch" value="http://www.yourwebsite.com" />
<input type="text" name="q" value="Search site w/Google" onfocus="this.value=''" class="textfield" />
<input type="submit" name="btnG" value="Go" class="submitbutton" />
</p>
</form>

Re: Adding a search function

I'll check out those Java ones. Is that the preferred method used on most sites? Or is it a post function?
I'd like to try to avoid the Google one as it doesn't match the look of our site. I'd like it to look like other sites where the results come up right inside your site. But I do appreciate the input.

Re: Adding a search function

Most large sites such as (ecommerce ones) use server side search.

With all the information being stored on a database.

Thanks! Is there an easy way to set that up? A tutorial, perhaps?

Re: Adding a search function

You need to decide which language u want to use (depending what your server supports) PHP or ASP.

Theres 1000s of tutorials for each language online.
