if you want to edit your CSS in Dreamweaver you need to view it in code view. DW will not render raw CSS in design mode.

I agree it outs abit too much in that you can do without. Although I use Dreamweaver it is always in code view like you said, I like to know whats going on and not what the program thinks it should include. I am a fan of Dreamweaver though, its a good management system and
ftp client - also find the object library function very useful when building large sites.
