Photoshop question - how do you add moonlit highlights to cloud edges in a night sky?

Hey gang,

I am creating a graphic of a night scene, with a bright full moon, and want to have the edges of the clouds (in the area of the sky closest to the moon) highlighted as if catching the moonlight.

Other than copying the cloud layer and carefully erasing what would be the non-highlit parts and then playing with levels, blur and opacity on what remains, does anyone know of either a quick way, or of a way that can be copied to other layers?

I am not necessarily looking for a photorealistic method, as it is clearly a graphic, but any suggestions are welcome, and if you know of any tutorials that show this, an address would be great.

Thanks
