do you mean you dont need an edge thickness to the circle, you just want the circle itself, to then be 'transparent' on a webpage?

What is it you are trying to achieve, and have you tried other ways?
It is possible that because you save for web, PS has 'flattened' it and hence takes with it the 'square' of the image as a whole. Have you tried transparent
gif files? Have you tried not using the 'save for web' option?
Try those if you havent already and come back to us let us know how you got on.
