Re: How to "become a web designer"?
Don't want to burst your bubble, but don't give up your day job. Not because your site is bad, but because web design is a hard field for many reasons. First, get ready to never be done learning. As the web changes constantly, so does web design. Secondly, there are so many easy ways to make web sites out there that many people will not pay for a web designer. It's ok, if you love it and want to make a few sites (bucks) on the side, then you are fine. If you want to make all you income from it, then it will be a hard road. Also there are so many designers out there, it's a hard industry to get traction in. It's easy to break into, (that's the problem) but hard to get traction. Everybody and their uncle is doing web design these days. Everybody claims to be an artist. So my advice is if you can do it, then go for it, but be ready for a lot of time and effort learning, and be ready for disappointments. So keep a stiff upper lip and trudge forward.
