I'd love to offer some advice if you have some specific questions. I should say that I am very involved in the MODx community and have recently joined their Marketing and Design team.
I have been using MODx since 2006 and find it immensely useful. I use it from what would be done in the past as static
HTML pages up to larger commercial websites.
One thing to be sure of is that you try it out first. While I'd love to say that MODx is for evervyone, it is not. Some people prefer to have everything done for them with addons. MODx has lots of addons (not as many as WordPress or some other OS projects).
It is not really an application framework as much as it is a Content Management Framework that alllows
PHP developers to build on and extend to the end of their limits.
For people who are seeking a "one-step" install and a five minute learning curve MODx is definitely NOT for them but if you are looking for a flexible alternative and a solid, logical management interface you should download and try it with the default dataset to see some of what you can do with it and how others have done.
Cheers,
Jay
