Re: Designer vs Developer

Don't designers design websites, graphics, backgrounds, images etc and developer concentrate on the functionality of the site, using php, JS etc?

Re: Designer vs Developer

That means they both are two different alien
Design website = Website Layout (Table, CSS, etc)???

So this means I fall more on to the Website Developer at the moment.
So which comes first, Design or Develop?

Re: Designer vs Developer

I have to do a bit of both, well cutting up to XHTML/CSS anyway and then integrate my CMS in ASP, I must say I much rather the development side of things though

Re: Designer vs Developer

The Designer / Developer relationship is the same as the Architect / Engineer. In general, I don't think one is more important than the other - but that depends on the focus of the project.

If you have to build a really complicated e-commerce system, the developer's skills might be more important than the designer's skill because functionality takes priority over design. But, if you were building a promotional website for a new movie release, then the meter swings the other way.

Is there more money in development? In my opinion, YES.
Top designers / developers usually have a certain *natural ability* in their field. But I think development requires more of this than design does. Then you may say, "Design requires creativity and you can learn to develop by reading a book". That is true, but it is also the reason why there are so many sh*ty developers out there.

The average joe (without natural talents) would find it harder to be a good developer than to be a good designer. That's why I think good developers get more dosh...
