Coding or Modifiying PHP Forums

hello, i am completely new to php forums...so new that i dont even have a forum of my own yet...anyways, i am thinking of creating one and adding it to my existing site. it will be part of my school project, so i desperately need help. heres what i want to do:
>>i want the users to be able to send a message, not to a specific user, but just send a message
>> that message is then delivered to a user chosen RANDOMLY from all the registered users

this is the MAIN purpose...i am creating a "game" where one student can send a message and it randomly ends up in some other student's inbox...

if anyone can help me with this please....will i have to code it myself??
if yes i greatly need someone to help me with that, since i only discovered the word php 5 days ago...yes..thats how new i am. anyways, i welcome any kind of help and thanks in advance...

p.s. another idea i have is to set up a forum alone on the internet..i.e. not associate it with the website that already exists...could anyone tell me the steps i need to follow in order to do that please?
there is a lot of information on how to create forums..im just confused..some say download this others say download that..(phpbb..invision)...someone tell me how to put a forum online please..thanks

Re: please help

Yes, that sounds to me like you'll need to code it yourself, or customize existing forum software. Although you may be able to find a plug-in/module for phpBB that does something like that, worth looking for.

Re: please help

yes, you would have to program it yourself, although it wouldn't be that hard. PHPbb and Invision are good, SMF because its free.

Re: please help

The best forum software I think is phpBB, if you go to their website (http://www.phpbb.com) and then click on 'Support' followed by 'Documentation' you will find step by step instructions on how to install the forum code on your website.

I don't think anyone will do it for free, if thats what your aiming for. I probably would do it "pro bono" normally, but I'm to busy right now. (But if you have a couple of bucks..... )

so its all about money with people isnt it? im desperate for help and you come offering me help IF you get money...before you say anything back to me, let me tell you that I dont care how good you are with coding or whatever you are. if u take advantage of people's situations then u are useless..to me..to this world ! if i wanted to pay someone why would i join a support forum and pay someone like you who i dont even know? anyways, im not here to argue with u or anyone....thanks for the offer though!

Re: please help

hey calm down. i wasn't expecting you to hire me. my main point was that i don't think anybodies going to do it for free. its a simple script, but its not simple enough to be free.

since you gave such a good point there, though, i will do it "pro bono". I'm PM-ing you with my info now.

Re: Coding or Modifiying PHP Forums

You can try with vBulletin. For ready forums is difficult to change some part of functionality exept what are allowed. I will not advice you to do it. Try with some ready decisions and modules.
