Expanding Divs.. Need Help :(

Right.. so ive got a div.. and inside that is the main content div.. i want to know how to have the outside div expand when the inside one does.. but there is a problem.. Both divs have a set height..

Is there a way to do this? I've already searched google but i can't find anything.

Any help would be appreciated..

You need to post the css for the two div's, at a minimum, for your question to make sense to me.

See the black div behind the white one?

Well i want it to expand when the white one does but i want them to still be the same size apart at the bottom etc.. and also they need to be a set height at the start to make them look right.

Any chance of it?

im not completely sure what your trying to do, why would the white box expand in the first place?

Take the height off of both divs.

To the code for the black div add this
overflow: hidden;

That will allow the black div to expand as the white one does.

But is it possible to give the divs a certain height and they only expand when needed?

Would min-height be appropriate?

HINT: Since IE6 does not understand min-height, but incorrectly interprets height as min-height, use the holly hack

Code: Select all

* html #selector {/*style*/}

and apply the equivalent height.

Which div are you trying to style?

I don't see where you've used min-height anywhere!?

You need to set the min-height property, then as above, target IE6 with the height property.
