I wouldn't get too discouraged. Google takes a while to give you good rankings. Most sites stay in the 'sandbox' for about 12 months. If you're lucky you'll get ranked highly and quickly, if not, you have to persist. Keep up the recip linking, and working on the key words, but don't give up. It takes months, not days or hours to make a website work.
