Meta Tags

From the thread that minute design created with the email from google I followed a few of the link. I found some other interesting information.
Google goes into detail about meta tags.

They mention the <title></title> and
<description> and various other google important meta tags, but no where on there do they mention keywords.
From that, I would say, that they do still read the description of a site but that the keywords are no longer important.

I bet keywords are still being used by Yahoo however!

ROFLMAO!!!

The keywords meta tag on its own is worth-less. So is the description meta tag. So is the title tag. What people seem to forget is that the important thing is correlating all those tags to match the visible content of the page.

It's not about having the right keywords in the keywords meta tag, it's about having the right words that will accurately represent the keyword density of the visible text of the page.

Quote:
By late 1997, however, search engine providers realized that information stored in meta elements, especially the keyword attribute, was often unreliable and misleading
Your job as an SEO is not to fall in this category. Don't try to trick the SEs. Don't just pull words out of a hat. Carefully select the words to fill your meta tags and the SEs will love you for it.

A good match between you meta tags and visible content is one of the characteristics of 'quality content', and that's what search engines want...

Re: Meta Tags

It's also possible that meta keywords are useful for adsense, simply because adsense is less open to abuse than SE rankings (you don't achieve much by tricking Google into supplying irrelevant ads).

That's the reason I've started using them.

There's no harm when you put metas on your site? I still put metas on my site...

The SEs simply ignored it because of the reason that many webmasters are trying to keyword stuff it....

<keywords> tag needs to be used wisely. You should make sure not to over-stuff with your targeted keyword. Just keep it natural, targeting 5-6 keywords/keyphrases
