New web site
I am new so hello all and thanks for any help
I have been asked to help build a web site for a school, But i need to use a free and easy to use web building software/editor, something that anyone in the future can get there hands on. I have done a few site in the past but all ways used dreamweaver, it was all very simple, they dont have the funds for such software. I have tried using Windows note pad, but its alot more complex than i thought. Is there a free package that would have a similar use to dreamweaver |

Re: New web site
A content management system might be useful. With a bit of educating you could easily pass control to a low-tech person and let them update their own site.
Never used it but Joomla is meant to be good: http://www.joomla.org/ |

Re: New web site
Sounds like you could use a good HTML editor. Notepad is decent if you need to make a quick correction on the fly but if your going to go ahead a build a whole site then your going to want something that makes it a little easier to read your code. HTML editors are nice because they usually will color-code different tags for you to make searching for items in your code easier as well as providing drop down lists that could help you find classes in your CSS or JavaScript or help you finish the tag that you are working in. If you go to any respectable search engine and search "HTML Editor" you should be able to find a large amount of editors that you can work with. A lot of them will offer you a free trial to see if it is the type that you will want to work with and afterwards you can buy them for a low fee. There are free one's out there also but they might not have the best options that go along with them. It's really all up to you.

Re: New web site
Joomla is a free, award-winning content management system written in PHP which allows users to easily publish their content on the world wide web and intranets. Joomla is created as an open-source project where individuals and teams contribute their skills to its development as well as its supporting systems

Re: New web site
I agree with dangergeek and somanweb, you should look into a CMS, instead of building pages from scratch - it would save you a lot of time both in terms of production and maintenance.
Joomla is an excellent software, but maybe a bit difficult to start with for newbies - CMS madesimple is in my opinion more appropriate. You can see a list of 2007 CMS award here. They are all excellent CMS, and worth playing a bit with before making a definitive choice. Emmanuel Last edited by saltedm8; Mar 22nd, 2008 at 01:04. Reason: removed link |

Re: New web site
And one thing advantage of Joomla is that there are a lot of components, modules, and templates available in the net.

Re: New web site
I would suggest using Joomla, as I have used that in the past,
But for a complete beginner, I possibly wouldn't suggest using it, as it has many many features!
