valid html+css for google

here is an interesting article.

So as Mike and so many others stress validation will give you that edge, not only in cross browser compatability.

Re: valid html+css for google

That test is extremely weak evidence.

It's a nice thought. I'd like to believe it. But I don't.

Google has no motive for caring about valid code. The vast majority of websites, including the ones with the best content, are invalid. Google itself is invalid.

If a website's code is badly broken, then that could cause a problem: Google needs to be able to find content and follow links. Other than that, I expect it makes no difference at all.

Validation is important, of course; but for other reasons.

Thank you for the reply Mike.
I guess no one will ever know how goggle really works, it just really frustrates me when you can spend a lot of time validating and writing clean code only to find a site using a wysiwyg ranking above you.

I know how you feel.

The cold, hard truth for web designers is that:
  • Users don't care about your pretty design. They want your content.
  • Users don't care about valid code. They want your content.
  • Google wants to help users find content, not pretty or well-coded websites.
Valid code and attractive designs are still good. You just have to keep them in perspective.

An ugly, invalid site with fantastic content is better than a gorgeous, valid site with rubbish content. And the ugly site will make more money -- a lot more money.

The BBC doesn't even validate. You would think the people who designed that would validate it.

MikeHopley I completely agree with your viewpoints..that's why I too prefer SEO over graphics designing... still validation is the key and it must be achieved 1st before anything..

Re: valid html+css for google

But design makes your website more catchy to your visitors. However, having a good content makes your visitors come back to your site because of the info that they can get. So, design will probably a help but don't focus on it, keep it as simple as you can....
