Transfering hosting to BT
Inlaws have asked me to transfer there website from there existing hosting company (gnhosting.co.uk) to BT.
Whilst setting up the Transfer BT asks for the Auth Code for your site. I have emailed gnhosting to get this as I cant see it in the control panel. Does anyone know what i am looking for?? Cheers Dan |

Re: Transfering hosting to BT
Auth code for your site? Never heard of that. Is it something specific to BT?

I think this might be along the lines of what your after.

Though if your only changing hosts there isn't usually a need to change registrar, you would normally just change the domain's nameservers. |

If BT are asking for "An auth code for your site" then thats not a good sign straight away if they cant get the facts straight right from the off... Auth codes (Or EEP keys as they are otherwise known as) are like a unique password for your domain name, usually .com/.net names etc and have nothing to do with the website itself. We've had several customers come from BT's web hosting saying their service was worse than awful as the mistakes they made were constant, and everybody they spoke to constantly told them something different. Best thing to do is keep your domain name where it is for now, just update your name servers and see if BT are any good for you, if not, then you wont have the hassle of moving your domain name elsewhere later if they suck, but if it does workout and you want to stay with them, then 6 months later sure, transfer your name to them. If they wont host the site without also being the registrar for the domain name, then avoid them. (Just some advice from experience)
