Re: Brand New to this, Where to start

PHP version three? That's not right.
Do you mean using the forum software phpbb3?
PHP version 3 is redundant now, PHP version 5 is the current version.

Re: Brand New to this, Where to start

If you have no knowlege of PHP its probebly becuase you are not interested in PHP so learning the whole language is probebly not the best thing to advise you!

Type in free PHP forum scripts into google & you will find one ready made to add to your website, you will still have to make sure that the server that your website is on allows PHP scripting & also you will need a mysql database to store the records of the users signed up to use your forum,

Here is what you need:

PHP hosting package,
Mysql database,
Signup form,
Memebrs Login form,
Php forum script.

Hope this helps

Hmmmm ..... Actually, alexgeek had a good point there. I was actually going to reply the same thing but he beat me to it.

Every free forum software have all that stuff integrated already. All you need is PHP and MySQL

Re: Brand New to this, Where to start

No problem Karinne, its just i made a point the other day of downlaoding multi packs of PHP scripts some were complete some were not, my point was a short way of pushing the point that the newbie left the forum nowing excactly what he needed to no in lamens terms!

I no i was a bit pushy in my last post its just hard sifting through the cocky comments trying to find what you need gets a little tired & boring!

Anyway am not here to bicker,

Take care

Andy.

Re: Brand New to this, Where to start

Insulting someone then adding "no offence" doesn't cut it.

You obviously do need your mistakes corrected by me in this instance, which has nothing to do with you being a landlord.

I stated that so that the person asking for help didn't go out and find a registration and login script when they will already have one with the forum software they choose.

No offense!

Re: Brand New to this, Where to start

Not arguing Alex.

When i said nerd i wasnt insulting you, i get called a nerd by my freinds and find it amusing.

Take it easy anyway, it just seems like everytime a post is there you can be a bit sacastic at times thats all!!!

I explained to Karrine why i explained a signup form & login seperetly, so there's no need to explain twice.

You have to understand Alex people are new & they need more help before they get the gist.

I have been posting messages for over a week about a huge form with 1 problem stopping it working and am still here trying to fix it a week later now as we speak, al am trying to say is there's to much tit 4 tat going on instead of problem solving!

How about we shake hands

Re: Brand New to this, Where to start

PHPBB is the most popular, but also the most hacked. (well go figure eh?). When you find one, the best thing is to read the forumz of that module and see what all ya need to set it up. Like mentioned above, all you really need is PHP and MYSQL and the forum package will cover the rest.
