Looking for your guys and gals input.

Hello everyone,
College is just around the corner for me and I have to get me a laptop. There are two brands that i love and would love to get but cannot choose which one. I'd like your guys' and gals' input on which one to get or what you'd rather have. Please state why if you would...

Re: Looking for your guys and gals input.

Alienware, are the top gaming computers in the industry. Well built, mostly fast computes...although, you still have to take into account the horrible OS that comes installed by default. One that uses NTFS...

NTFS = HARD DRIVE DEATH

I would recommend a MacBook, or perhaps a MacBook Pro. Although, if you still insist on going with a Windows computer, then an Alienware would be the best company, even though is was purchased by Dell.

Alienware are too expensive, you can save like 60% building yourself.

My dad has over 20+ dell laptops (Latitude) for his company and not one has had a problem. They are very good from my experience.

Re: Looking for your guys and gals input.

I must admit Dell are very solid, and the support is great (their 'tag' system is very useful for getting hold of system information and drivers etc.)

But having said that, big fan of Samsung and Toshiba. And yeah, simonb, not Advent! I think that was some cheap backend of the company behind Dixons, and support is non-existent

I'd recommend a MacBook. They are fast, user-friendly, have loads of hard disk space, and just look awesome with Leopard...

Re: Looking for your guys and gals input.

Are you joking? Dell with great support...what a joke!

Any who, I heard from a source...can't say who though, that there just might be an article on this very topic in the Creative Coding newsletter this month! So for all of those people considering what to purchase for your next computer, just wait till December 1st!

Re: Looking for your guys and gals input.

Fortunately I haven't had any problems with my dell but if the support is similar to the sales line id be worried....

'Can you upgrade the graphics card on this machine?'
'Yes you can. I'd recommend an Athlon 64X2 4000+'

Numpty

And they try and sell you this wonderfully amazing 'engineer to your door' service for a nice fee.

For just college work most of the brands mentioned in this thread will be fine. If your looking for more 'umf in the games department the alienware is a good option.
