Re: Apple vs. PC

That also. I have patched many a wall after computer creation. It is so nice not to have to do that anymore...well hardly ever....

Re: Apple vs. PC

You can build your own Mac, it is entirely possible. But well, no need. Soon I will have a Mini set up just for a web server/irc/vent server. probably just going to run nix on it too.

Re: Apple vs. PC

Each to their own. Then again, I have heard of many windows users switching to mac but I don't know of many mac users that will switch to windows. I'm sure it happens but it's a lot less common is all I'm saying.

I use both though I might get another mac and just use it for windows using boot camp. I like to have both running at once cos I'm lazy and can't be bothered running parallels .

And further to your point about other operating systems. If you buy a mac you can run OS X, Windows, and a number of different Linux systems using Parallels. So if you buy a mac then you have more software options open to you.

And there's also the fact that macs are more secure than other systems. I've never suffered an attack while online and I think I've only crashed once or twice so that's a good selling point for me.

There is of course the final and best reason to own a mac, and that is the experience of receiving and opening your first mac. The packaging is as amazing as what lies inside and when you do finally open it up. Well, it's quite a moment and I can be as philosophical as I want but it's basically sex in a box, and that's no bad thing.

Pete.

BAH! Windows...Macs....
Heres my...opinoun.
PC- More customizable. Way more customizable...
Apple-Sure you can customize, and they do use better hardware...in some cases.
But, I'm pretty sure you could build a PC that is better than an apple and cheaper.

And As for OS's
...I use Linux...

Re: Apple vs. PC

Many linux distros that run native on apple hardware although Parallels is uber sweet. As for switching, Most Mac users that do switch switch to Linux. i.e. Gentoo or similar. Hell, with the intel Macs you could just use Windows all the time if you wanted to or triple boot OS X, Linux, Windows. Really its all about choice.

As for customization sure you can go to Fry's or something and just buy parts, however you will still spend $300 + on a good graphics card alone. The point with the Apple stuff is you don't need to. Their laptops for example cost what they do because honestly (Not so sure about the Macbook as it is a "cheaper" machine geared to students etc..) they are just that good and well built. It all depends I guess, I had a G3 iBook back when and I hated it with a bloody passion, in fact I hated it so much I almost left Apple altogether, but then the new Powerbook (g4's) came out and I fell in love all over again.

Sum up my rant, if I were going desktop I would probably buy an iMac as a Mac Pro would probably be out of my budget or I would build a PC on my own, but I am one of those crazy people that only likes using portables so the Macbook Pro is the logical choice. For me.

Re: Apple vs. PC

I love portables, too. I guess that's why I don't have much to comment on the whole "you can build PC's but you can't build Macs" argument. Being able to take my computer that's equally as powerful as a desktop with me while I work as opposed to having a 20 pound block that doesn't allow me to move just doesn't make sense to me.

Re: Apple vs. PC

Drool. Hopefully I'll be able to afford that soon. I had the money once, but a few emergencies needed to be taken care of. How annoying.

Re: Apple vs. PC

Buy a cabbage or possibly a lettuce

Tesco are selling the mac mini (or whatever they call it) for £528 and to be honest the spec is whack! I'd get more power out of installing vista on my cat or even the parrot!

yeah, but the Mac mini is "only" a 1,8GHz processor..
  • 1.83GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
  • 1GB memory
  • 80GB hard drive
528 pounds is a crazy price.. The Apple website sells them for 599 dollars!

Re: Apple vs. PC

Yes, crazy....haha....not! When you buy a Windows computer you need all of that hardware. But with a Mac you don't! the operating system is built for the hardware that its running on. But, this debate has been long over, but if you are still interested in this topic....then perhaps you should look at the Creative Coding Newsletter next month...I heard they were doing an article on something about computers.
