Re: (SI) Simplified Impact

I do like it, but the about and projects pages images are not centered in Firefox 2 on Windows. Also I hate to say it as it's so far along, but my first thought was that it looked like http://mediatemple.com Now I don't know if many of your readers will even know about media temple, but if they do they may see the similarities. I know you didn't copy, but on of these days you might wanna look into changing some things, if not that's cool too, it looks good. Just a couple bug fixes and it'll be totally ready.

P.S. A couple other things that you might wanna change.

-Make an actual link to the websites in the portfolio instead of just text with the URL so it's easy to explore your sites.
-Maybe make the thumbnails in the portfolio the same sizes.
-The about page is a little confusing with the columns separated by the image.
-The Si logo on the business card looks different than the one in the header

Good job though

Re: (SI) Simplified Impact

It does look a bit like Media Template all right - but I think they'll know the difference, for a second I thought Media Temple was a Network too, so I felt like hitting myself.

Then I realized that they were a hardware company -
I feel so angry - I loved Apple's Site, but they were wayyy to similar, so I changed it around, added a background the same color as the menu, change them to tabs to get away from the roundy and darkened them so it wasn't the Apple Grey.

Should I just Start over? Do they really look that similar?
The background image is a different color and much larger - the menu's look similar, but everyone has seen the process it took to get to these I didn't just change them!

The logo - I have always loved the myriad pro font, and comes from my sisters old nail company logo. (The Brackets)

See - sorry for the quality, I had only just started my design course, I found it on one of my old free host website servers and it was made on my old laptop so I have no better quality one:

What are ye're opinions?

Ed

Does it really matter?

Of all the designs on the internet, parts of your design will inevitably look like some other website. Who cares? It's a website, not a dress for the Oscars.

I agree however, in this instance ... it's a logo and we all know how people can be VERY picky about their logos

You (si) is basically the same as their (rh) ...

The (rh) was my sister's logo - she said I could use it.

She has a franchise nail company.

Re: (SI) Simplified Impact

Well, if I were you I'd be proud that you had the skill to come up with a logo on your own that a very large nationwide company uses! That's pretty good. As far as redesigning that is up to you. I would definitely consider changing the logo at least. That logo is found throughout the web. They have many many affiliates, and are a really big hosting company as well. The (mt) logo is pretty big around the net, and as your readers probably have been to some blogs (I assume but don't know) they may see that logo and wonder if you are an affiliated company of some sort (so maybe it's good!). I think the design other than that could stay I don't think too many people will realize. The logo on the business card could work pretty well. Maybe do something like media temple and have the logo on the left and the words simplified life next to it so it's more clear what the company name is at all times.

Re: (SI) Simplified Impact

It's finished - logo changed.

Unless something is diabolical, I will not be changing it.
I will submit to WOTM tomorrow.

Thanks,
Ed
