I have a couple of mockups for a new design for my portfolio site. I've asked a few people what they thought and got some pretty mixed responses. So I'm posting here in hopes of a few responses from people who do this sort of thing for a living.

OPTION 2:

Thanks and I'm looking forward to your replies!

P.S.
Imagine 2 with content underneath, I haven't gotten that far with it yet.

Re: Which Direction Should I Continue & Why?

Continue adding to Number 1..it's very original.
Remember though, it's your html that matters.

¬The Second one is silly - especially your tagline.

Your whole "personal" approach is wonderful...I would want you to design my site (if it will validate) if I couldn't design!

¬I'm not sure about your mixture of fonts- classical style and play school style? The Childish font makes me think of ...uh! Especially mixed with the classicesk font!

¬ I'm not sure about your tagline - nice idea, but when I say it, it makes me think it's grammatically incorrect even though it's perfectly valid English.

Thanks,
Ed

Thanks for the feedback! As for the tag line... well that stays hehe . I've had that tag line for a loooong time. I think of it as a bad joke. I'm even thinking of animating it in and having the classic "ba-dun-dun" sound after (maybe followed with a few mixed giggles and boos or something).

The reason for the cartoon-like font is all based off the silliness of the tag line. But I've been thinking of trying a little more serious of a style.

Any other feedback? I'm all ears!!

I like the tag-line, cheesey as hell but it works because its so stupid.

2nd site does look more professional

I thought you meant dull as in boring. I just realized you meant dull as in dark colored... at least I assume.

I actually like both ... they both have something different that you don't see often. But ... I think the 2 second (black) is the one that is more meaningful with your name with the street sign and lamp post, etc...

Re: Which Direction Should I Continue & Why?

Did a little more to the 2nd one to give a better idea of what I'm thinking for it. Any changes of heart or new comments?

Re: Which Direction Should I Continue & Why?

I think it looks great although the 'Dave' graphic looks a little pixelated!
