CSS footer problem
Hi
I have nearly completed a new site which is currently viewable at: http://www.dangergeek.co.uk/rc_cars.php The left hand menu which i have used expands vertically when clicked with a little bit of javascript. If you expand all of the menus it does not force the footer down like i initially hoped it would. Does anyone know a solution or can anyone help Thanks, Tim |

Re: CSS footer problem
Aarg.
You should really, really look at your site in Firefox. It's a disaster. Another IE designer learns the hard way. |

Re: CSS footer problem
I think disaster is a particulalrly harsh word to use. It looks almost identical in FF on my screen.

It's a complete train-wreck in my browser. I'm not being funny -- it really is. You have all sorts of positioning problems; for one thing, your "left" nav is on the right, and partly obscured by other elements! I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.9, on Windows. Re: CSS footer problem
lol,
i'm using the same version of Firefox on Windows XP but it displays correctly?!? I solved the original problem of this thread, there was a rogue height in the left menu css which when removed sorted it out. You've concerned me now though Mike, why would it display differently if we are using the same browsers? Does anyone else have the same problem? |

Re: CSS footer problem
I'm using firefox 2.0.0.9 on my PC running vista and it looks fine to me.
The only thing that I did notice, which I'm not sure if its correct or not is the images at the top (below the nav) have a hover state that highlights around just the bottom of the picture, is this correct? lister |

Re: CSS footer problem
How very strange.
It looks fine in Opera, which normally shows a very similar display to Firefox (i.e. a correct display). But I assure you, it's hopelessly broken in my Firefox. Are you using some weird browser detection scripting? In any case: validate, validate, validate! You have some nasty code errors. Last edited by MikeHopley; Nov 7th, 2007 at 10:46. |

Re: CSS footer problem
Hmmm, yes just tried that and I would agree with the train-wreck statement.
However its a bit of a major rethink of some of the more interesting functions on the website to fix it. In fact its just the slide show feature at the top whicg causes the major problem. I could try and find a different solution. I had already made the decision to say tough luck to the people with javascript turned off. Google Analytics tells me only 0.4% of my users have javascript disabled. ho-hum best go find a better degrading slide show |

Re: CSS footer problem
By the way, I have javascript enabled. I'd know if I had disabled it, because forum posting stops working properly.
I do, however, have java disabled (but that's something completely different). Quote:
If your site is a train-wreck without JS, then does that not constitute a sample biasing factor? People without JS will not hang around, so they will be under-represented in your stats! |

Re: CSS footer problem
This site is to replace an older version which has been around for 2 years. The stats relate to that site so i would say they are a fair representation.
---- Just double checked the old site with javascript off. It displays perfectly but the main menu doesnt work. interesting. This means for the last 2 years non javascripters have been able to view the site happily but not actually use it. I've been with the company for a year and never heard any one complain that the site won't work! With this in mind it does make the google analytics results untrustworthy. but if no one ever complains about the site not working then maybe i really shouldnt care about the people with javascript turned off as they dont use the site!!! Well being a conscientious web designer i will attempt to fix the problem so it works for 99.9999% of the users( Sorry Mike there is nothing i can do about your faulty pc |

Re: CSS footer problem
If you want a layout that expands all columns and makes the footer stay at the bottom of the page without javascript, have a look here http://pmob.co.uk/
There is loads of different layouts and all you have to do is view the source and get the code |
