Issues with getting pictures to show on site

Since i am a newbie, I was following the instructions from my CMS-Joomla about inserting a picture to go with my text. The photo loaded up fine with the insert picture box. It was where i wanted it and when I hit apply it did not apply there is no picture on my front page after my text. I am not sure why it doesnt show any ideas??? Could it be that my page is to small in length? If that could be an issue how would i increase the size of my page? Like I said I am a newbie so please give me a response for an idot! lol

Nope.. Check in your media gallery if the image is actually there. Are you using the {mosimage}-tag?

Wither i post the pic threw the url or add the html code the picture shows up in my box that i am editing but not showing up on the site. I am unsure of what you mean by {mosimage}-tag? as I am very new to doing this sort of thing like a week is all i have been at this and learning as i go along. So if you wouldnt mind putting things in idot form for me that would be great!~
