Tips On WebPage? (PSD, not live site)

Apologies if this is not the correct place to put this topic, but I didn't think it would suit the web site critique section as it is not 'live'.

Basically I am creating a site, the site currently being created in photoshop at the present time.

However, I think it looks too plain, or not, .. appealing?
It is incomplete, so links are not done, content has been thrown on there ...

Look forward to your criticism. =]

(Again, i do apologies if this is placed in the wrong section =[)

Hmm. Maybe have curvy edges.
At the moment it looks very blocky and kinda 90s-ish.

My distaste (no offense) lies in the left-hand navigation. Pure text like that is not nice to look at. I also agree with Alex :: too 90s-ish. Try changing colors a bit. I feel sort of trapped in a basement...
Again, no offense :: you asked for criticism.

I think i have to agree with Swagner. The pages are dull and very 90-ish. Why are you using a font like that? No offence but fonts like that on websites are horrible in my opinion. I recommend that you choose a nice flowing font like Verdana.

Cheers,

Thanks guys.
Took your advice Marc, and used verdana.
Alex, I changed the titled tabs, so now the corners are rounded.
Swag, what would you suggest for navigation?
I was gonna use a hover background image when scrolling over the links. (Using lists)

Have you got an updated PSD or an actual page to show us now?

That sounds good. I suggest using a background image that is dark and lights up on rollover. Take a look at some good examples here, and here. Also, take a look at this tutorial about lists and navigation. Remember, these are just ideas! You don't have to make your navigation like that.

Re: Tips On WebPage? (PSD, not live site)

I think he used that colourscheme / layout and fonts because his site will be about the Final Fantasy game series (or at least one of the games, right?).

So the font used is similar to the games logo, his menu is similar to that of the games menu and the grey colourscheme he used is also used in most of the games, or at least can be chosen over the traditional blue.

Thing is, a lot of other Final Fantasy sites out there use this exact same style.

I'd suggest you introduce some different colours into your design because it's too dark. Either that or add some colourful images.

Anyway, I look forward to seeing what you come up with
