creating a forum
I have a site hosted by godaddy on a windows server. I want to add a forum onto it easily. I tried to put a phpbb2 onto it but it appears that I need to switch to a linux server to do this and I do not want to switch. Is there another easy way?

Re: creating a forum
That definately isn't the problem, I used to run a phpBB2 board on a windows server. The requirements for phpBB are:
A webserver or web hosting account running on any major Operating System with support for PHP A SQL database system, one of: FireBird 2.0 or above MySQL 3.23 or above MS SQL Server 2000 or above (directly or via ODBC) Oracle PostgreSQL 7.x or above SQLite PHP 4.3.3 or above with support for the database you intend to use. The optional presence of the following modules within PHP will provide access to additional features, but they are not required. zlib Compression support Remote FTP support XML support Imagemagick support Other free forum software: phpBB v3 punBB v1 SMF Vanilla Premium Software: vBulletin IPB

Re: creating a forum
phpBB3 is a lovely little thing but you may have to be just a tad patient. Its looking like the final release might be out sometime in mid 2079.
Only kidding - phpBB2 is your best bet for learning (IMO), it does not need linux, it has the largest database of add-ons and because of its already long lifetime, it has a massive and helpful user-base in its support forums. It has been losing popularity over the last couple of years but as soon as phpBB3 is finally released it looks like it will take its place as the number one again. Another reason to use phpBB2 is it will allow you to get to know the community while the wait for phpBB3 continues - and continues - and continues................. |
