Link Building Strategy

I read so much rubbish in relation to link building, most of the subjects are based around PR and directories. There is however a much better method for building links with a view to increasing a sites position in the main search engines.

Write a good quality related article
Upload this article to your website
Link this article to the main bookmarking sites

As this method is based around content it is viewed as acceptable by Google. It will drive traffic to your website as well as generating strong backlinks.

Re: Link Building Strategy

Well said. I'm a member of Webmaster-Talk and see so much junk in their SEO forums concerning "secret ways to get backlinks", SEO "masters", "gurus" and "experts" (who ask really REALLY basic questions) and other general conspiracy junk.

The real "secret" is that there is no easy way - writing good content is the only way to get to the top and stay there

For Google " Content is the King and links are Queens " so try to get both without spamming internet, you will surely rank higher.

I agree with you saying that Links are Queens and Content is the King. If you have both of these, then one would surely have a great PR Castle

But picking up random links from non relevant sites wont do you any good. If you want to start a link building campaign, then be very careful in picking up links. I would suggest that go in for highly relevant article pages. This ways you will not only improve your rankings, but will also bring targeted traffic to your website.

Re: Link Building Strategy

Good thread guys, and I see the logic behind your initial post businessserviceuk, however...

I have thought many times about writing articles relevant to my industry, and submitting them to article submission directories, blogs etc etc etc. However as soon as I go to do so and search Google I'm blasted by so many options.

I had never ever thought of keeping the article on our own site and having sites link to us, I had always thought I'd need to write it and then publish it on theirs. Could you please recommend four or five good sites whereby I can do this? There are so many to choose from, and when i started before it felt like I was spending ages signing up to places and submitting, just like I used to do with directories for links.

Thank you in advance for your time.

Re: Link Building Strategy

Hi Chainsaw.....

The best advice I can give you is to install the google toolbar and enable the display of page rank. I would be very wary of submitting articles to sites where articles over 4/5 months old have zero page rank and would be aiming to see at least a 2 or 3 rank on good articles.

Good articles should attract links which is the main reason for writing them.... they also attract PR which passes along to you as you will link back to your site from within the article.. therefore I would suggest the use of some common sense in where you place your articles.... do some research. Perhaps start with the sites that already publish articles in your industry and see how they weight up pagerank wise.

I would resist the temptation to submit your article to multiple sites as the duplicate content effect may outweight the benefit - find the best site for your article and stick with that.

Hope this helps.

Re: Link Building Strategy

It certainly does help Rob, and I see the logic. Here's my dilemma...

I'm writing articles about chainsaw use, maintenance and safety - which have a very good possibility of attracting links from .edu sites - so I'd like to publish the content on my own site, and hopefully have one of those heavily weighted links pointing to my site, rather than someone elses and getting a small amount of PR from it.

Although it would not attract the same readership levels, or even pagerank, the edu link benefits would outweigh this, I believe.

One of the parts of this thread that caught my attention was the opening post where it said:
Quote:
Link this article to the main bookmarking sites
Can you recommend any such sites? Does this mean bookmarking places such as delicious? I would not of thought it would be a place such as delicious as I can't imagine that it "will drive traffic to your website as well as generating strong backlinks." - so I assume it's a different type of bookmarking site, but wanted to check if anyone new of an example.

Thanks again

Re: Link Building Strategy

yeah, delicious, furl, digg, technorati, spurl, reddit, mr wong, et al.

If you have articles that wil attract .edu or .gov links then you are quite right - definitly publish them on your OWN site. However, most articles are not that variety hence my suggestion above.

Hello Rob,

Can you tell me if I'll get links from article pages with no PR but relevant content, does it help me in getting good rankings.

Joe

Re: Link Building Strategy

I would add that any of the website pages has its own weight and should be targeted to these visitors which will get best experience when they go there. This means to build a strategy that counts all pages of the website, not just the home... and a few more sections.

Hi Joe,

If the content is relevant, from higlhy specific article pages related to your industry of specialization, then links from these pages will surely help you in the long run. This ways you will not only improve your rankings, but will also bring targeted traffic to your website. What you can be sure of is that links from realting articles will drive more relevant traffic to your site, increasing the possibility of repeat visitors (as you already know they are interested in the subject and not just "stumbling" across your site).

Re: Link Building Strategy

I've tried great articles and content with limited success. It's b...y hard work these days.
You have to get backlinks by whatever methods you use and these days they need to be good.
The most success I've had is with good quality training information relavent to the industry. I started in multimedia 10 years ago and we soon found out that just text and pictures would never be good communication. So I made full interactive multimedia programs as exe files. Much better quality and not only to more people link to them but also they have links inside the program to send people back and can be given away from CDs or other sites.
Much more effective.
