By designing website search engine friendly is not a big issue, but to make sure while designing the website into html, properly close the tags and don't overweighted the web page with javascripts and inline css !!!

Your site design should be clean html and should be easy to navigate, avoid java scripts and other scripts which area not SE friendly; concentrate on theme of your site while designing don't make a full flash site SE bots can't crawl flash content.

Web Site Design Guidelines for a SE Friendly Site :
1. Make your text readable : Make your text readable: standard size (Web standard is 12), no silly fonts.
2. Make your navigation clear: making your site hierarchy clear and consistent
3. Images : Every image on your site should be there for a good reason. Give every image an "alt" label and a corresponding text link.
4. Loads Quickly : Images should be sized so they don't bump up load time.
5. Avoid Frames : Most major search engine spiders are unable to read frames.

And more ..

This hasn't got anything to do with SEO. The spider doesn't read it as a web page it reads it as code. So what font and font size you use doesn't make any difference!

Loads quickly is important but only in that your code is as slim as possible. Image loaduing time has nothing to do with it because as said before SE's spiders read the code not the visual display.

Re: how we can design seo friendly website design?

Make it beautiful, make the content engaging. It's about striking a balance it needs to be optimised so that people can find your site through search engines but it needs to look good enough and contain good enough content so that people are impressed when they get there. It also needs to be subtle enough so that returning users are not irritated by any design aspects; size 8 text might look good but is very difficult to read.

Pete.

Re: how we can design seo friendly website design?

Having a website that caters for visitors is key. Too many people design a website based around search engines rather than making a site user friendly. Of course there are some other things to consider.

Tags should be fully optimised and gel with a pages content
Content writing in an easy to read many with full use of anchor text, text that is written for the benefit of search engines tends to read poorly.
Add content regularly
Have on site, sitemaps and a google sitemap
Have a nice balance between text and pictures.

It is not rocket science, google has made public its webmaster guidelines

For more in depth analysis study Googles patents.
