Website, Web-Site or Web site?

It makes me laugh (and wonder) that my version of dreamweaver doesn't know the word "website". But really, is that how it's spelled or do you spell it as "web-site" or "web site".

Another word that spell checkers don't seem to like is "Online". Should this be "On-line" or "On line"?

Just wondering.

Re: Website, Web-Site or Web site?

Depends what English Standard.
In the oxford dictionary, I don't think website or online would be in there at all!
But web standard, it would be acceptable.

P.S. Made that up but I think it's right..

Re: Website, Web-Site or Web site?

from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buffalo...uffalo_buffalo
Quote:
The sentence is unpunctuated and uses three different readings of the word "buffalo". In order of their first use, these are
  • c. The city of Buffalo, New York (or any other place named "Buffalo", which is used as an adjective in the sentence and is followed by the animal;
  • a. The animal buffalo, in the plural (equivalent to "buffaloes"), in order to avoid articles and is used as a noun;
  • v. The verb "buffalo" meaning to bully, confuse, deceive, or intimidate.
Marking each "buffalo" with its use as shown above gives
Buffalo[c] buffalo[a] Buffalo[c] buffaloa buffalo[v] buffalo[v] Buffalo[c] buffalo[a]. Thus, the sentence when parsed reads as a description of the pecking order in the social hierarchy of buffaloes living in Buffalo:

Re: Website, Web-Site or Web site?

I imagine at on time or another we would all fail an online spelling test. At least I admit spelling isn't one of my strengths. No logic to it.

It's not about who has the biggest word; it's what you do with them that matters.

Besides, I can't beat alexgeek in the size department.
