Yes, it is depressing. My current project was horrifically mangled in IE6, and I nearly lost hope. Then I looked a little more carefully at hasLayout, and found it solved a lot of problems.

Pandering to IE6 is necessary only because it is popular. IE5 is not popular (about 1% share and dwindling), and therefore I urge you to cheerfully ignore it.
