Domains!
Hi all!
I was wondering if www.123-reg.co.uk was a good place to buy a domain name, just the domain name by itself? Because it has really cheap .co.uk domain names for two years, and was just wondering if anyone has used them before? so just wanted some feedback on what they are like! Will this be a good one to go with, as I will be shortly be hosting wit site5! Thanks Cracka

Re: Domains!
I have already looked on the go daddy website... but on that 123-reg it is alot cheaper, infact it is cheaper for two years than it is one on Go Daddy!
I will have a look at Telvio now! Thanks Cracka

Re: Domains!
I wouldn't necessarily go for whats cheapest - you get what you pay for. Godaddy is very cheap (I don't use it but cheaper than who I do use) so why test the limits and go for someone even cheaper?

Re: Domains!
Sadly 123-reg are becoming well know for ignoring requests for help/support and with the premium rate telephone number that loops you through menus, it could end up costing you a lot more.
.co.uk names are already fairly cheap already, so why the penny pinching on such a small amount of money anyway? (Dont mean that in a bad way, just corious as to why somebody would wrestle over a few pounds when the original price only a few pounds)

Re: Domains!
Try calling (so called) customer support at 123reg, via their £0.50/min, premium rate phone number - "sorry, we are closed" bla bla, so sent email. ...
lol.... There are few stories of webmaster who have spend hours on premium phone line but were not sorted out for their issue

Re: Domains!
123-reg do not have a premium rate contact number, it is a national or local rate.. erm 10p a min.. the number is hidden on their website tho:

Re: Domains!
It's cheaper for .co.uk but not for .com and many others. And the price difference is hardly massive.
I use godaddy, I don't find about a fiver a year excessive for a top level domain and the domain management tools are second to none. Pete. |

I second namecheap.com, great services and lots of features, just one thing they recenty slightly raised prices on all extensions.

Re: Domains!
For a .co.uk I would try either 123-reg.co.uk or oneandone.co.uk (but you have to live in the UK to use oneandone.co.uk). Otherwise if you're going for a .com, godaddy are probably the best price

Re: Domains!
Namecheap.com have risen pricing for their domains, but their WhoIs Guard Package is still free.

Re: Domains!
All domain registrars should be increasing their prices, or some already have such as 1and1, this is due to a Icann increase (or was it Verisign!)

Re: Domains!
Thought I might be able to offer some insight on my experience of 123-reg.
Domains are domains in my mind,it doesnt matter where you register them provided that the people you register them with has a decent system for renewals etc and offer you the functionality you are looking for. e.g ability to change the nameservers/DNS. For many years I used 123-reg without problem - you never really need support on a domain name its always on the hosting (dont get hosting from them). Having said all that.... approximately 6 months ago I logged onto the 123-reg site to renew one of my customers domains. I renewed it successfully 10 days before it was due to expire. 15 days later I received an email from nominet saying that I had not renewed my domain name and that the domain would be returned to the pool. I then attempted to contact 123-reg to resolve the problem as the status of the domain was showing as "renewal overdue". It took me approximately 1 hour to get through to a customer service representative who resolved the problem in under 10 minutes. They had charged my card but not submitted the renewal request to nominet (the people who look after ALL the .uk's) I then thought "it's a one off, ive never had this before - I will continue to use them" However I had the same thing happen this month for 2 domains. I have been on hold for 3 hours to tech support only to get a recorded message saying they were having problems with billing and to please bare with them whilst they tried to resolve the problem. This is costing me time and money trying to sort out so I will consequently be switching away from 123-reg. If anyone knows of a decent firm who do domain reg (don't tell me about the big ones please, I know all them) I hope this helps, I have tried to give as fair a view as possible from my 3 years of being a customer with them with approximately 60 domains. Regards, Dewetha |

Re: Domains!
Why not buy a domain from SiberName.com? This company specializes in domain registration and they have some discounts if you reg a domain from them for a long period of time.

Re: Domains!
I have a few domain names with 1 and 1. They are pretty average.
