Website disabled, data transfer exceeded.

After finally getting the website up and running correctly with thanks to members on here, have just received an email from the host saying it has been temporarily disabled as the data transfer has been exceeded.

The package we went with was free so I should have seen this coming but I need to know what to do now.

In the package, I get the following.
Webspace: 2,500 MB
Data Transfer: 100 MB
Mail Boxes: 1,000
Autoresponders: 1,000
Mailing Lists: 1,000
Email Forwarders: Unlimited
Catch-All Email: Unlimited
Junk Mail Filters: Unlimited
eXtend Control Panel
Webalizer Graphical Statistics
FTP/SSH Access
£300 Software and Free Web Tools
Site Management Tools
Massive CGI Script Library
Cancel Anytime!
Price Freeze Guarantee
24 x 7 Technical Support (not included)

So how does the data transfer work. Is this when I move files to and from the server or is it whenever the site gets a hit it is reduced? Sorry for n00b questions again.

The site is mainly text and pictures. Not sure if it matters but all the pictures on the site occupy a folder which is 12mb. Does this mean if someone visits the site and reads it all and looks at all the pictures then 12mb will come off my data transfer? I assumed that the 100mb was just to do with me moving files around and not the actual bandwith of the site.

Am looking at others hosts at the mo but if someone can just explain the 100mb to me like Im an idiot ( I am... lol ) that would be cool.

TIA.

Re: Website disabled, data transfer exceeded.

it's a common mistake to assume bandwidth is the total amount of mb/gb you can have downloaded each month.
bandwidth is the rate in which it is downloaded (e.g. 1mbps).
data transfer is how much you can have downloaded from your site each much,
so if you upload a folder with 10mb of images in,
only 9 people could view it before you disk usage will be exceeded (because usually even uploading files takes away from you're transfer).

is this freeeasywebhosting, or something like that?
site5/wesh would probably be a better choice

Re: Website disabled, data transfer exceeded.

Its Heart internet. To be honest it was the first free one I came across that I got instant access to. I signed up for a few others but didnt get a confirmation email etc.

If I go to wesh would it just be better to transfer the domain over totally? I know before the email addresses were only available if I used Hearts own server. IfI transferred over to wesh then they would handle all the email forwarding etc?

Re: Website disabled, data transfer exceeded.

you can either point you're name servers to the new sites or do that tag thing (UPS? something like that)
if i were you, I'd just point you're servers at them, sometimes they charge you if you want to change the tag thing.

Re: Website disabled, data transfer exceeded.

Wesh would most definitly be the host I always recommend every single time for PHP.

Their prices are not the cheapest around, but then companies with cheap prices generally lack service, reliability and suffer outage far more regularly. In any case, the prices set by wesh are totally realistic and they are not expensive thats for sure.

As a user of this forum, you will notice the reliability and speed of wesh.... because they host this very site!

I host every website thats php based with Wesh and cannot sing their praises highly enough.

Re: Website disabled, data transfer exceeded.

If you give wesh you old cpanel details, they will do a site to transfer of all your files, ftp accounts, email accounts... everything!! and for free I believe.

Re: Website disabled, data transfer exceeded.

Hi guys

Heart are infamous for offering "Unlimited" everything but we can say we have had many customers come from them with nothing good to say about them.

We dont impose "Transfer rates" but you do pay for "Bandwidth usage" meaning the amount of outgoing data transferred over the course of a month.

Sadly, heart use there own custom written control panel called extend, giving you cp.yourdomain.whatever and its compiled of loads of different scripts all rolled into 1 login area, so we cant actually transfer your site directly, but many customers have just given us their extend login details and we have managed to transfer their entire websites to us but had to do everything manually such as exporting databases etc.

If you have any questions about our services then please do ask via our website as were not here @ webforums regularly, or drop me a PM as I get these by email anyway.

Best wishes
Richard (MD)
