Servers and domains

Its just struck me that I know absolutely nothing about hosting! I've just gone along bought something that will make my sites show and thats that so I'm looking for a lightning tour from you people!!! haha.

So a few questions I have...

What is the idfferences between a managed/shared host, a VPS and a dedicated server...why would I need each?

Can I host more than one domain on a hosting package? I have some ridiculous amoutn of memory that I'm never going to use up with one site so can I add more domains to the hosting package or do I have to have one package for each site?

If you can have more than one domain on a hosting package then what is the point in a reseller account?

Finally a specific example...the site5 $5 deal mI've noticed and have read about....I would never use all that memory but would def be interested in it if I could host a number of sites on it. I don't have the money to pay $20/month but I can easily strecth to $5 a month if I can host more than one site on it...

So...fill me in on all this hosting stuff!!

Mike

Well, in order to host websites you have to have a server. Any computer can be turned into a server. A shared host you are sharing that computer with several other people.

Here is a quick paragraph about them both.

You can! This can be done though domain pointers. Here is how they work!

Quote:
Domain pointers allow you to easily add domains that point to directories within your main site, yet act as their own separate website.
Domain pointers can have email addresses and even subdomains, and can be managed centrally from our easy to use SiteAdmin control panel.

Well you can't host sites for other people and charge them money. You can host your personal sites and friends sites, but you are not supposed to make profit.

Plus with the reseller plan, you get Cpanel/WHM and billing software to bill and manage your clients. Very cool, check out the demos!

I think I answered everything. If not let me know. The final decision is up to you, reseller or $5 deal. You decide!

Jaboc pretty much nailed this, and with normal hosting this is also often referred to as an "Addon domain" where you addon a seperate website to your primary hosting account.
